WHO WE ARE?

Students Council Is Responsible For Events Around The School, Your Great Assemblies And Being Your Liaison Between Students And Admin. Students' Council Is Made Up Of Students, Who Are Elected At The Beginning Of June The Previous Year, Who Meet Weekly. Students' Council Leads Several Initiatives Unique To Glebe, Including The Annual Spooktacular Event, Oscars Night, Culture Fair And Much More, While Making Each School Year Fun And Memorable. It Is Our Job To Make Sure Your Students Voice Is Heard And Action Is Taken! Join Us To Continue This Almost 100-year Tradition Of Students Working With Administration!

Attention All Glebites, As The New Co-presidents Of Our School We Would Like To Extend A Great Deal Of Gratitude Towards All Students For Being Elected And, Of Course, Your Continued Support Of Our Events And Fundraisers Throughout The Year. As We Enter Our Term As Co-presidents, We Wanted To Remind You, All Of You, That We Will Continue The Proud Tradition Of Keeping This School As Proper As Can Be, While Also Giving A New Look To Council That We Know The Students Have Been Wanting For A Long Time Now. We Can Fully Assure You That Great And Exciting Events Are Currently Being Planned And We Will Strive To Fulfill All Your Expectations Starting Now.

OUR CONSTITUTION!

Article 1 - Name of Organisation

The Name Of The Organization Shall Be “The High School Students' Council of Glebe Collegiate Institute” (Hereinafter “Students Council”)

Article 2 - Role Of The Council.

A. Represent The Voice Of The High School Students (hereinafter “students”) Regarding School Matters.
B. Actively Seek Out Student Opinions On Matters Of Concern.
C. Take Any Necessary And Permissible Follow­up Actions To The Students’ Requests.
D. Develop Unity And School Spirit Amongst The Students.
E. Advice The Administration On Any Matters Of Concern To The Student Body.
F. Maintain Communication And Establish Strong Relations Between The Students And The Administration.
G. Each Student Council Should Set And Prioritize Goals Specific For The Student Body Needs Of The Year.
H. Guide The Student Body Advice In Terms Of The Actions They Can Or Cannot Initiate, As Well As Provide Students With Advice In Matters Concerning The School.
I. Provide Feedback On And Suggest Amendments To School Policies In Order To Create A Better Atmosphere For Students.
J. Develop And Update The Constitution In Order To Ensure That The Council Can Respond To The Needs Of The Students As Deemed Necessary.

Article 3 - Membership Of The Student Council

I)elected Positions For The Students Council. 


A. The Co-presidents
B. The Vice Co-presidents.
C. The Senator
D. The Treasurer
E. Secretary
F. Grade 12 Class Representatives
G. Grade 11 Class Representatives
H. Grade 10 Class Representatives
I. International Student Representatives


II) Associative Positions


A. Student Trustee And Other OCDSB Positions


III) None Elected Positions For The Student Council


A. Member At Large
B. Grade 9 Class Representatives

Article 4 - Roles And Responsibilities Of The Students Council Members

1. Roles And Responsibilities Of The President Are:


A. To Call Meetings And Create Agendas.
B. To Lead Meetings And The Direction Of The Council (this Includes Spirit Events, Admin Relations Etc.) 
C. Be In Charge Of Direct Communication Between The Council And The Administration.
D. See That The Individual Members Fulfill Their Responsibilities And That The Council As A Whole Completes Its Annual Goals.
E.plus Roles And Responsibilities Outlined By Ocdsb And Administration.
F. Plus Roles Of Article 4, Subsection 4.

2. Roles And Responsibilities Of The Vice President Are:


A. To Be Responsible Along With The President For Formulating The Meetings' Agenda.
B. To Chair Meetings When The President Is Absent.
C. To Communicate With Students And The Administration. 
D. Plus Roles Of Article 4, Subsection 4.

3. Roles And Responsibilities Of The Treasurer Are:


A. To Handle The Finances And Accounts For The Students Council.
B. To Help Organize The Financial Aspect Of New Events.
D. To Record The Budget For The Students Council.

4. Roles And Responsibilities Of All Grade Representatives And International Student Reps:


A. To Promote Events. 
B. To Communicate With The High School Student Body.
C. To Help The Organization Of Spirit Activities.
D. Create Advertisements For Students Council Activities.
E. Represent Students Council On Any School-oriented Media.
F. Represent Grade Opinions And/or International Student Opinions And/or Administrative Opinions In Students Council Meetings.
G. Make Proposals To The Students Council. 
H. Vote On Any Issues That Need To Be Decided.

5. Roles And Responsibilities Of The Secretary Are:


A. To Keep A Note Of Decisions Made By The Council
B. Assist Students Council Presidents And Vice Presidents With Tasks.

6. Roles And Responsibilities Of The Members At Large Are:


A. To Promote Events. 
B. To Communicate With The High School Student Body.
C. To Help The Organization Of Spirit Activities.
D. Vote On Any Issues That Need To Be Decided

Article 5 - Meetings


1. Students Council Shall Meet Every Week Of The School Year Unless Decided Otherwise By The CO-Presidents.
2. A Topic Is Discussed And Then Voted Upon. For A Council Decision To Pass, The Majority Of The Council Must Be Present, And At Least Majority Of The Votes Must Be In Favor Of The Motion.

Article 6 - Accountability


1. Each And Every Student's Council Member Will Be Held Accountable In Order To Ensure Adequate Performance.
2. Disciplinary Infractions Are Defined As Follows: A. Unexcused Absences From Meetings. B. Failing To Complete Assigned Tasks.
3. Each Unexcused Absence From A Meeting Will Count As A Disciplinary Infraction.
4. Failing To Complete The Scheduled Tasks For Each Week Will Count As A Disciplinary Infraction.
5. Accruing 4 Disciplinary Infractions Will Lead To Instant Dismissal From The Students Council.
6. The Secretary And Co-presidents Will Be Responsible For Keeping Track Of All Infractions.
8. Students Council Members Will Be Notified By The Co-presidents If They Are At Risk Of Dismissal Upon Further Infractions.
9. If A Member Is Dismissed, Students Council Will Meet And Discuss Whether Re­elections For The Vacant Position Are A Worthwhile Endeavour Given Relevant Factors Such As Proximity To The General Elections For That Particular Post And The Immediate And Long Term Requirements Of Student Council.
